it's 6 months i've left GW for lack of interest, i came back just to fill up this 50 titles, and i'll probably quit again after that, waiting gw 2
5 years are a lot, not many games can entertain for so much time

The very best ones entertain for decades. Even though usually not continuously.

yea pretty much pointless after 30 if don't want the titles...
I might go for it after some time - once I rake as much gold as I can and then get the rest once the market is dirt cheap again

What about things like LDoA and Treasure Hunter (Wisdom being a distant third since you can flat out buy it)?
Getting to 30 is extremely easy with 50 not requiring a whole lot of effort beyond that. The only real issues I can see here are the required obsidian/vabbian and the recent surge in prices to everything HoM related which might be considered 'unfair'. Those things aside the bar here was set very low most likely to make the most people happy as possible...and it appears to have worked. Hardcore though? Not even close.

Exactly. But you gave me an idea. I am strong-arming one of my officers into working on his HoM (he has five points at the moment) and I will help him out. Maybe I could get my grandson to work on his once youth football season is over.

If you dont like titles then just dont really play and wait till you get your stuff for GW2.
Its a win-win situation. We weed out the stinkweeds that want to rain on the parade of GW2 by saying "this is stupid im not doing that Q.Q /quitgame" and we get more pug activity/stimulated market(can anyone say 100k unded bone dragon?)

It's so important that they made 30/50 the cap for item rewards. The item rewards are what 99% of what players care about and like John Hargrove said, "There's more prestige stuff (titles, for instance) at the top, but everything is geared towards the bottom because we wanted to appeal more to the casual players." In the Kotaku article it continues to paraphrase, "One would think this sort of skew would infuriate the more hardcore, but the team collected feedback from players with less than 100 hours of play time to those with more than 12,000 hours, and everyone seemed satisfied."
Had 50 points been required to obtain maximum rewards the argument that rewarding certain achievements is unfair would become even stronger. I personally don't like FoW armour more than anything else each profession has the option of so I don't have it. If I needed 50 points and the item reward I wanted was the 50 point item I would have to buy armour I don't care about. Sure I ended up buying and accomplishing a lot of stuff I don't care much about to fill my hall (mini pets and weapons, I'm looking at you) but the combination of achievements to get up to 30 points is pretty varied and encompassed a lot of what I was already doing (and what didn't fit into their mold wasn't too difficult for me to complete).
I actually feel like I'm more likely to get to 50 points now that they are just titles compared to if they were item rewards. I wouldn't enjoy dragging myself up those last 19 points if I felt pressured into doing it so I could have a black widow spider or fiery gauntlet hands. Now I can continue to complete whatever goals or objectives I want to do to fill those final slots without feeling like it's required of me. One of my biggest dislikes in game designs is when they take something that you did for the sake of doing it (because you enjoyed it) and turn it into something you want to do because the reward is the one that you want.
I am happier now that I don't have to worry about maximum reward forcing me into scraping walls or farming ecto, I can complete the titles or buy the items I want to buy. I am happier they aren't telling me what to do next and thus more likely to invest time completing things in the game.

Well, you can sit, and do something else excepting when there are festivals, or you can go for 50 and GWAMM.
It's your choice. No one forces you.
It's not like any person would laugh at your for having the extra titles or not.
Note that I said PERSON.

I'm kinda depressed i had mostly everything done when the HOM site went live...
only took me a few hours to top out at 50/50... it is discouraging there inst more because after 50/50...everything you do will probably be meaningless upon gw2 release.
That being said you got to admit hom site was the shock panels to guild wars flat-lined heart.... there now over 200 trades in kamadan on average... as apposed to the past two months when its been under 100.. Way more effective than any new content they made. Ive noticed areas are more populated too... there is way more demand for items that nobody cared about previously... but how long will it last?

It will probably be busy this week and the next, and again it will get busy a few weeks before GW2 is launched.

I think what most people don't realize when they say 30-50 is useless is that every title in the HOM is a separate title track... not the all on one track so that means 10 separate titles.... if there is a max title track in GW2 and these count towards them... your going to want them.

I could give a rat's ass about titles, just like in GW. I play games for fun. I don't find titles fun.
I had 27 when I first checked. Logged-in after half a year of inactivity. Bought a couple cheap minipets, snagged armor remnants before prices skyrocketed. Added everything into HoM for 35/50. I'm done. Most likely won't touch GW for another couple months, if ever again.

rewards for a game that does not exist playable yet have no impact on my current game play.
I will still be trying to do what I was before we had this information, and will continue to until I have completed those goals (vanquishing and then account wide titles), the only difference is now I know what the possible 'rewards' for having accomplished these will be.
so no, no different
